Chocolate Chip Cookies
The chocolate chip cookie is the most popular cookie in the United States, and was accidentally developed by Ruth Wakefield of the Toll House Inn near Wakefield Massachusetts in 1933.
On July 9th 1997, Massachusetts designated the chocolate chip cookie as the Official State Cookie.
Ingredients
You'll need:
- mixing bowl
- wooden spoon
- cookie sheets
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 to 2 cups chocolate chips
Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Cream together the butter and both sugars
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well
- Mix in the vanilla
- In a separate bowl combine and mix flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; add to main bowl and mix until incorporated
- Gently stir in the chocolate chips.
- Shape dough into ping-pong sized balls and place onto ungreased cookie sheets few inches apart, press each ball gently to flatten slightly.
- Bake in pre-heated oven for 8 to 10 minutes.
After removing fom oven, allow cookies to cool for a few minutes before removing from cokie sheets. Enjoy!
